FABA Awards and Scholarships

All nominations must be received by August 1st to be considered for the upcoming annual conference.

Below is a description of each award:


The Behavior Change for a Sustainable World Research Award
Initiated in 2018 by William Heward, this award is meant to support research using behavior analysis concepts and principles to promote sustainable practice and environmentally friendly behavior change. For more information, please follow this link.


The Glenn Latham Scholarship Award
In honor of Glenn Latham is intended to recognize parents, foster parents or direct care staff who have exemplified quality behavioral treatment. It consists of a plaque, complimentary registration to FABA, one-night’s hotel and three meals.


The Cathy Lee Buchanan Behavior Change Success Award
will recognize a committed, caring behavior analyst who uses behavior analysis procedures to improve the lives of others. A peer, supervisor, local review committee or local chapters of FABA are encouraged to nominate BCABAs or BCBAs (or CBA’s and CABA’s) who work directly with clients in Florida. The award consists of a plaque with the person’s name engraved.


The Charles Kimber Public Service Award
for the Advancement of Behavior Analysis in the Community is to recognize those who are having an impact in a whole community through their dedication and commitment to improving the lives of others through the use of behavioral procedures. The award is intended for those establishing programs in a community, consulting or supervising in a number of facilities in a community or otherwise providing behavioral expertise to expand behavioral services in a community. The awardee is not necessarily a behavior analyst but could be another professional who supports behavioral activities and programs. The award consists of a plaque with the person’s name engraved.


The Michael Hemingway and Gerald Shook Public Service Award
for the Advancement of Behavior Analysis in Florida is intended to recognize behavior analysts or other public officials who are having a significant impact in the state of Florida by their support of behavioral approaches to treatment. The awardee does not necessarily have to be a behavior analyst but rather has to have demonstrated an understanding of what behavior analysts do, and have shown a commitment to the use of high quality behavioral procedures on a large scale. The award consists of a plaque with the person’s name engraved.
The David Niederpruem Memorial Fund
was established to honor the impact he made on the lives of his students and the teachers he mentored. This fund provides a plaque and scholarships in the form of conference registration to those individuals engaged in the education of students with disabilities in the schools.


The B. F. Skinner Foundation Florida Graduate Student Research Award
of $500 is to assist in funding graduate student-driven research. Applicants must be a FABA member attending a graduate-level program in Florida. The proposal must be for a student-driven research project, thesis or dissertation approved by their department of study. Applicants do not have to be in a behavior analysis graduate program, but the research must be behavior analytic in nature. Consideration will be given to proposals that describe research with a focus on observable and measurable behavior (or the products thereof) as the dependent variable and the manipulation of well-defined environmental events as independent variables.  Both applied and basic research proposals are encouraged.

FABA '16 General Information


Here are some things to keep in mind when presenting at FABA:

Audio/Visual Equipment

The session room will be set theater style with a lectern at the front of the room and an LCD projector. We will also provide a six-foot draped head table and 2 chairs. If you are showing slides, we request that you bring your own laptop with your slides pre-loaded. Those using Mac computers will need to provide their own cable adapters. There will be a table in the back for any handouts, brochures, etc. A limited amount of additional A/V equipment can be provided. Please note which equipment, if any, you require. Additional requests will be considered based on budgetary impact. Microphones and speakers will not come standard in smaller rooms and will only be available in those rooms seating over 200. If your presentation requires audio, please note this on your submission.

Head Shot

Please submit a high resolution color digital headshot, at least 300 dpi, in JPG format. We cannot use PDFs nor can we use images pulled from a website for print purposes. Although they may appear fine on screen, the resolution is not high enough and will appear grainy in print. . Please note that all head shots must be a photograph of the presenter, no illustrations or clip art will be accepted. If you are an author, also submit book jacket image(s).

Speaker Handouts (optional)

You may provide handouts to conference attendees if desired. These can include written copies or summaries of your presentation, as well as supplementary resource materials. We regret that we will not be able to cover any costs associated with duplication, shipping to or from the conference center, or handling of handouts or other speaker materials.

We encourage speakers to promote their participation via their social media accounts, websites, event calendars and newsletters.

In addition to Twitter, we invite you to join our groups on LinkedIn and Facebook to engage our audience before and after the conference. This is a great opportunity to share relevant content from your blog, link to your news articles and media appearances, ask thought-provoking questions, surface ideas to explore in your presentation or solicit questions to ask your speakers if you are a moderator. We also welcome guest bloggers (post about your session or re-blog your existing content).



FABA counts on volunteers for the substantial work that they do at the annual conference. This work is crucial in making the conference run smoothly.  Given that, please understand that volunteers are NOT attending the conference as regular participants.

Each volunteer must provide 3 shifts of service during the conference to receive free conference registration.

To receive a voucher for free CEUS, each volunteer must provide 4 shifts of service during the conference.  Aside from scheduled hours, volunteers are welcome to attend sessions.

FABA expects that selected volunteers will commit to completing all scheduled shifts and duties asked of them. If a volunteer does not complete any of the assigned shifts, they will be billed the conference registration fee.

Volunteer duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Helping with conference registration and/or packet pickup
  • Assisting exhibitors
  • Monitor conference sessions
  • Monitor pre and post conference workshops
  • Performing other duties as assigned (e.g., setup, cleanup, runner)
  • Volunteers must register in advance.  All volunteer positions not filled by FABA members 2 weeks prior to the conference will be filled with local student volunteers.

Volunteers will be assigned to monitor a room for a block of time. Thursday morning, Thursday afternoon, Friday morning, Friday afternoon.

Volunteers will not be able to move from room to room during the 10-minute break between sessions.

Volunteers will only be required to work 3 shifts (ie Thursday morning, Friday afternoon)

Workshop volunteers will be assigned in advance. Individuals who preregistered as a volunteer will be given the opportunity to select if they would like to monitor a workshop, and if so, which one.
