The ABA Coding Coalition is comprised of representatives from the Council of Autism Service Providers (CASP), the Association of Professional Behavior Analysts (APBA), the Behavior Analysis Certification Board (BACB), and Autism Speaks. The ABA Coding Coalition has announced at multiple conferences (The Autism Law Summit, APBA, CASP, and ABAI) that the ABA Billing Codes are changing effective 2027. The current ABA Billing Codes include Category I codes 97151 through 97158 plus two Category III Codes: 0362T and 0373T. It is anticipated that 97151 through 97158 will be updated to reduce ambiguity. It is also anticipated that six new codes will be added to capture services not currently described. Finally, it is anticipated that the two Category III codes (0362T and 0373T) will be deleted.
The American Medical Association (AMA) is responsible for the CPT Codes. It is anticipated that the AMA will release the 2027 Codes in early late summer or early fall. FABA will share information with members as soon as it becomes available. Florida providers should expect a period of policy transition once the 2027 CPT codes are released. Commercial insurers will begin updating contracts and reimbursement rates. AHCA will need to revise its Medicaid policy and issue formal provider notice. These changes typically trigger downstream adjustments in documentation standards, case oversight requirements, and claims adjudication processes.
Florida providers should be prepared for increased scrutiny of claims, additional requests for clarification, and potential audits tied to code transitions. Proactive internal staff training and reviews of billing practices will be essential to maintaining compliance during this statewide and national transition.
